Design & Build
The Chromebook 14 G6 is a compact laptop that comes in a 14-inch chassis. It weighs about 3.74 lbs (1.7kg) which is reasonably lights, considering its size. Its profile thickness is 18mm (0.7-inch) which is average by modern standards. HP has built the case from plastic to keep the price on the lower end. Nonetheless, this is an acceptable chassis that is robust and comes with any screws.
The model we evaluated for HP Chromebook 14 G6 review came in black colour. From lid to keyboard to rear panel, it is painted in black, expect its keypad markings.
The display on this HP Chromebook is undoubtedly its best feature. It comes with a vividly, bright 14-inch touchscreen that offers Full HD resolution. This is an IPS panel with a wide viewing angle and an anti-glare screen that we found amusing. We were able to view from almost every angle and even under bright sunlight.
We were able to receive 220 nits of average screen brightness. Overall, this is a decent display that delivers crispy visuals. The only defect that we found in this HP Chromebook is the absence of the interface scaling feature. This is a feature that allows the user to enlarge onscreen elements and text size.
We found it to be one of the best touchscreen laptops. The HP Chromebook 14 G6 has a display that supports multi-touch gestures. When we reviewed its functionality, we were able to access files swiftly without any unnecessary resistance.
Keyboard & Trackpad
The keyboard is the one thing that all laptops’ users want to be right. Fortunately, the HP Chromebook 14 G6 has a highly responsive keyboard. This is a typical 14-inch keyboard deck that lacks the Numpad. However, there is plenty of space between keypads and enough key travel. We evaluated its performance on 10fastfingers and were able to get 75+ wpm. This is a smooth keyboard that offers a decent tactile upon pressing the keys.
The trackpad on this touchscreen laptop is ideal for everyday computing. This is a relatively bigger trackpad with a smooth plastic surface that acts as a button. So, you can push it at any spot to register the click.
Ports & Connectivity
There are enough ports on HP Chromebook 14 G6 which are scattered on both sides. The right edge features two USB 2.0 ports and a power connector. On the left edge, there is a microSD card reader, a 3.5mm universal headphone jack, a USB-A port, and an HDMI output connector.
For a budget touchscreen laptop, this is a decent port selection. However, we missed the modern USB-C port as most modern laptops now have one. Also, it would be better if there were USB 3.0 ports rather than two USB 2.0 connectors. HP has loaded it with an 802.11a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi antenna and Bluetooth 5 combo for wireless connectivity.
Touchscreen laptops generally come equipped with high-end hardware selection and the latest technology features. HP Chromebook 14 G6, however, is a budget model that lacks powerful components. It features an energy-efficient Celeron N4020 processor which is a budget CPU for everyday computing. It can only deliver a clock speed ranging from 1.1GHz to 2.8GHz.
There is a 4 GB memory placed with an integrated UHD 600 GPU and 32 GB of SSD storage. The operating system, like any other Chromebook, is Chrome OS. So, the user will have complete access to all the Google-based services. You can install useful apps from Google Play Store and can use Cloud computing to store and access data files.
This is an acceptable hardware selection from a budget laptop with a touchscreen. You can use it for casual computing and perform tasks like word processing, browsing, emailing, and streaming videos. However, it cannot run games, media editing software, or heavy tasks like a Surface Pro. Nevertheless, this is a brilliant choice for teachers, students, and home users.
HP Chromebook 14 G6 features a 37WH battery which contains 3-cell. The brand claims it can deliver up to 8 hours of battery life once it is fully charged. However, we were unable to extract the same value of time on a single charge.
We used the Wi-Fi battery test to assess its battery life performance. We evaluated its battery performance and ere able to secure around 7 hours. This is a decent battery performance from a budget-friendly touchscreen laptop.
If you are a budget-user looking for touchscreen laptops, HP Chromebook 14 G6 is an ideal option for you. It has an FHD display with a touchscreen that delivers crispy clear visuals.
